Yardage is the distance you are at any given time from the hole.
While I am used to playing with a rangefinder and GPS watch, I want to tell you how you can find yardage without these things in case you don’t have them.
Knowing the yardage at the beginning of a hole is easy- just look at the tee sign and it tells you.

However, once you’re off the tee, it’s not quite as easy. Knowing a few things can help you find your yardage without much trouble.
- Identify what type of yardage markers you are looking for before your round.
- You can check the scorecard
- Ask the proshop attendant
- Ask someone familiar with the course
- Look for those markers around your ball on the course.
- They might be colored markers flush with the ground.
- They might be sprinkler heads that have the yardage written or engraved on them.
- They might be colored stakes that are easier to see.
- They might be colored lines or numbers on the cart path
- Other than the cart path, I find most other yardage markers are in the fairway. If you aren’t in the fairway you might need to find the closest marker then guess from there the best you can.
