Ball Markers

A ball marker is used to mark your ball on the green when you are not putting.

*You are only able to mark your ball on the green. *

To properly use a ball mark:

  1. Place the mark down behind your golf ball.
  2. Pick the golf ball up.

This allows you to pick up your ball and still keep its location marked.

When you replace the ball:

  1. Place the ball back in front (or wherever it was in relation to the mark)
  2. Remove the coin before putting.

This allows you to:

Under normal conditions you cannot temporarily pick up your ball anywhere else on the course.

Most of the time, you will mark your ball when you get to the green when the other players are also on or within a few yards of the green.

The only time you might mark your ball while another player is not on the green is if they are chipping and your ball might be near their line to the hole.

For example: If Jake hits his ball on the green from 120 yards, he would not run up and mark his ball until the other golfers had hit their shots from similar yardage. If one of the golfers had just a chip within about 20 yards of the green, then Jake might mark his ball.

As the chance for someone to hit the ball becomes higher, the more chance you would mark your ball.

Sometimes even a ball marker can be in another players way. If this happens, you can use your putter to move the ball mark a club length away to get it out of the other players way. Just be sure to remember to put it back to its original marked location before putting.

There are many of different types of ball markers:

The most classic is a small flat plastic piece that has a small spike on the bottom to keep it from moving.

Specialty or everyday coins and poker chip type markers that a slightly larger and heavier allowing them to stay in the wind.
