Golf 101
Golf is played by using clubs to hit a ball around the course and into the cup on each hole.
The golfer who finishes all of the holes with the fewest strokes wins.
The Course
Courses have 18 holes broken into two halves.
The first 9 holes are the “Front 9” and the last 9 holes are the “Back 9”.
Each hole consists of:
- Tee Box – Where the first shot of each hole is hit.
- Green – The area containing the cup, where the last shot of each hole is hit.
- Fairway – Area of shorter grass that leads to the green.
- Rough – Area of longer grass around the Tee Box, Fairway, and Green.
- Fringe – Area of shorter grass between the rough and the green.
Some holes have:
- Sand Traps – Areas that have been dug out and filled with sand.
- Bunkers – Areas that have been dug out. Can be grass or sand.
- Water – Ocean, Lake, Pond, or Creek around or running through the hole.
- Waste Area/No Mow – Areas allowed to grow high and unmaintained.
- Out-of-Bounds – Area marked around the course that is not in play.
Golfers equipment includes:
- Bag – Specifically made for holding clubs, balls, and other golf accessories.
- Clubs – Up to 14 .
- Balls – As many as you begin the round with.
- Tees – Used while hitting on the Tee Box to get the ball off the ground.
- Glove – Helps with grip. Worn on the opposite hand you golf.
